Useful before interesting
A story must change a near-term decision about cash, margin, inventory, staffing, compliance, technology, sourcing, or customer demand for an independent retailer. Popularity alone is not a reason to publish.

Evidence before speed
Regulatory, tariff, recall, tax, labor, and economic-statistic claims require a primary source. Other claims require a direct primary announcement or corroboration from two independent trusted publishers.

Automated research helps discover and organize evidence. CMP’s briefing is written as original synthesis for boutique operators, checked for copied phrasing, and linked directly to the underlying sources.

No filler and no pay-to-play
Decision news must clear our highest usefulness score. A verified operating brief must clear the standard evidence and operating-value bar. When neither qualifies, CMP publishes a quiet-day bulletin only after the required source-coverage and provider-completion checks pass. The bulletin reports that coverage; it never turns an outage into a quiet day. Vendor material cannot establish a story by itself, and commercial participation cannot buy coverage.

Visible corrections
Material changes retain immutable before-and-after records. Published stories display the correction, its severity, reason, changed sections, and correction time; critical corrections can trigger a subscriber notice.
Automation disclosure
AI-assisted research, deterministic safeguards.
Automated systems search only an editor-managed source registry, produce structured candidate briefs, and preserve provider citations. Deterministic checks then enforce source allowlists, recency, evidence mapping, primary-source rules, originality, scoring thresholds, and duplicate prevention before an edition can be scheduled.
Autonomous publication remains controlled by separate publication and delivery kill switches. Before an edition can publish, the exact deployed release must issue a content-bound admission receipt after replaying its evidence, recency, source quality, originality, usefulness, scoring, topic-diversity, and duplicate checks. Evidence records, decisions, rejections, revisions, and delivery history remain available for audit. Quiet-day bulletins pass a separate, fail-closed coverage gate and report the number of attempted, successful, and current-source checks; incomplete acquisition or synthesis produces no bulletin.
