7 Best Shopify Dead Stock Reports for Finding Trapped Cash

Seven ways to find dead stock in a Shopify store, ranked by whether they price it in dollars, verified against live App Store listings in September 2026.

A Shopify dead stock report identifies inventory that has stopped selling and, in the better tools, prices it. This list ranks seven, checked against live App Store listings and documentation in September 2026. Cash Margin Partners leads because it separates dead stock from slow-moving inventory, reports both in dollars, and attaches a way out.

Disclosure: Cash Margin Partners publishes this site. We rank ourselves first, and we name the cheaper option below when the merchant only wants the report.

How We Evaluated These Dead Stock Reports

We fetched every App Store listing, vendor site, and help document in September 2026 and wrote each entry from published material. Where a vendor's own pages disagree with each other, the entry says so and names both numbers.

Four criteria, in weighted order:

  • Does it name dead stock, or does the merchant have to build it? Three tools here ship a named report. Two require you to construct the logic.
  • Does it answer in dollars? A count of stalled units is a starting point. The cost value of those units is the decision.
  • How is dead stock defined? Days since last sale and days since last receipt are different measurements, and one of the tools below uses the second.
  • What happens next? A report that ends at a dashboard leaves the stock exactly where it was.

Pricing, ratings, and review counts verified September 13, 2026. App Store review counters move daily, so date any figure you quote.

Shopify's Dead Stock Gap Got Wider in August 2026

Shopify sunset Stocky, its own inventory app for POS Pro, and the Help Center states plainly that Stocky is no longer available as of August 31, 2026. It was delisted from the App Store on February 2, 2026.

Stocky never had a dead stock report anyway. Its report list ran to ABC Analysis, Best sellers, Low Stock Products, Stock on hand, and eleven others, all oriented toward what to reorder.

The migration documentation names real gaps. Supplier records can't be exported at all, historical purchase orders can't be imported into Shopify native, and there's no native weighted-average costing.

Key data point

Shopify publishes nine native inventory reports, and exactly one of them carries a dollar figure: Month-end inventory value, which multiplies cost per item by ending quantity per variant, according to the Shopify Help Center. None of the nine identifies non-selling inventory and prices it in the same view.

1. Cash Margin Partners: Inventory Cash Analysis for Independent Retailers

Cash Margin Partners publishes this comparison and includes its own product. It is free inventory analysis software for independent retailers, with no credit card or time limit. It is not a replacement for purchasing, accounting, manufacturing, or workforce software.

After a successful import with sufficient evidence, the workspace identifies eligible recovery candidates, shows inventory cost basis, and suggests markdowns, same-category bundles, and liquidation review. Healthy, newly arrived, and data-incomplete items remain protected from recovery actions.

Connections and data

Cash Margin Partners offers read-only Shopify, Square, and Lightspeed Retail X-Series connections where production launch status and workspace eligibility permit. Lightspeed is a capacity-managed X-Series custom application, excluding R-Series, eCom, and Restaurant. Compatible item-level uploads remain available after column review; Clover uses that export path, not a native connection.

Shopify supplies unit cost when available; Square and Lightspeed analyses add costs through CMP's prefilled template.

Planning and recovery

Directional 30-, 60-, and 90-day inventory-risk estimates and confidence signals require a recent successful supported live connection with sufficient usable history and cost evidence. They support decisions and do not guarantee future sales or recovery prices.

The proposed CMP Exchange publishes a 20% fee on a completed marketplace transaction, with no software subscription. Live listings, Stripe checkout, payouts, and buyer availability remain subject to production acceptance and workspace eligibility; no sale or payout timing is guaranteed.

Start with the right analysis

The free five-step calculator provides a directional trapped-cash estimate from questionnaire answers. A separate free workspace supports SKU-level analysis after a supported store connection or compatible item-level upload.

Limitations

CMP does not buy inventory or guarantee buyers. Recommendations require owner review; pricing guidance uses heuristics and confidence signals, not a validated market-clearing price model.

2. Mipler: Advanced Reports: Best Named Dead Inventory Report With the Value Attached

Mipler: Advanced Reports ships a report literally named Dead Inventory, showing SKUs with no sales in a chosen period alongside quantity on hand and total value of stuck inventory.

Mipler is the closest thing on the App Store to a purpose-built dead stock report. Its Dead Inventory report lists SKUs with no sales in a chosen period, last sale date, last stock update, current quantity on hand, and total value of stuck inventory.

The window is user-selected, and Mipler's own guidance recommends reviewing products with more than 60 to 90 days of no sales, checked at least monthly. That's sensible advice and it matches what we see in diagnostics.

Mipler holds a 5.0 rating from 636 reviews on the Shopify App Store, with the most recent review dated September 11, 2026. That's the deepest and freshest review base of any tool in this category.

Key features

  • A named Dead Inventory report with total value of stuck inventory in dollars
  • Ten inventory reports including ABC Analysis, Inventory Value, Inventory Snapshot, and Inventory History
  • An Inventory Planner report forecasting stock cover from sales velocity and supplier lead time
  • Google Sheets connector adding an MQL function for live report pulls
  • Exports to PDF, CSV, Excel, and Google Sheets, with scheduled email delivery on paid plans

Pricing

Free under 1,000 orders, Basic at $14.99 per month, and Pro at $29.99 per month, with annual billing at $143.88 and $287.88. Note that Mipler's App Store listing describes the free cap as 1,000 lifetime orders while the pricing page says up to 1,000 orders with no lifetime qualifier.

Who should choose Mipler

  • Shopify merchants who want a named dead stock report and nothing after it
  • Stores under 1,000 orders that can run the whole thing free
  • Teams pulling report data into Google Sheets for their own models

Limitations

Mipler reports dead inventory without ranking what to do about it, and there's no markdown plan, no bundling logic, and no channel for selling the stock. Its forecasting is units-only and velocity-based, and it supports Shopify POS data only, with no Square, Lightspeed, or Clover.

Mipler vs Cash Margin Partners

Mipler wins on breadth and on price transparency, and a merchant who only wants the list and the value should buy it for $14.99 and skip us. Cash Margin Partners earns its place when the question moves from what's dead to what to do about it, because that's where a report stops and a recovery plan starts.

3. Assisty: Best for Aging Views Alongside Purchase Orders

Assisty ships both a Slow-Moving Products report and an Aging Stock report, bundled with demand forecasting, purchase order creation, and multi-location tracking for Shopify stores.

Assisty positions itself as a Stocky replacement and carries a 4.8 rating from 358 reviews on the Shopify App Store, with the most recent review dated July 29, 2026.

Its Slow-Moving Products report identifies products with low sales velocity, and a separate Aging Stock report categorizes inventory by time since purchase.

Read the Aging Stock definition carefully before relying on it. Its three stated metrics are current inventory quantity, last received date, and aged days since the last receipt. A SKU that never sells but was recently restocked reads as young inventory under that measurement.

Key features

  • Slow-Moving Products report based on sales velocity and turnover rate
  • Aging Stock report measuring days since last received date
  • Separate Inventory Value report calculating stock worth from quantity and cost
  • Demand forecasting with stockout dates and what-if scenarios on the top tier
  • Purchase order creation, receiving, and multi-location inventory tracking
  • Free tier with six months of sales history

Pricing

Free with six months of history, then $19, $59, or $199 per month depending on the merchant's own Shopify plan level. Demand forecasting is gated to the top tier, despite the app's headline describing itself as AI-powered demand forecasting.

Who should choose Assisty

  • Former Stocky users needing purchase orders and receiving in the same tool
  • Multi-location Shopify merchants tracking stock across sites
  • Stores that want a slow-moving view included with replenishment work

Limitations

Assisty's Aging Stock report shows units and days with no cost or cash figure in the same view, so the dollar answer requires a second report. It's Shopify-only with no Square, Lightspeed, or Clover, and its own homepage cites 345 reviews while the App Store shows 358.

Assisty vs Cash Margin Partners

Assisty does several things Cash Margin Partners doesn't do at all, including purchase orders, receiving, stock transfers, and Stocky migration, and a merchant who needs those should buy it. Cash Margin Partners measures from the last sale rather than the last receipt, reports the dollars in the same view, and helps evaluate recovery routes; proposed marketplace access remains subject to production acceptance.

4. EasyScan by 506: Best for Former Stocky Users Who Scan

EasyScan by 506 pairs barcode scanning and purchase order workflows with named dead stock and ABC reports, positioned directly as a complete Stocky replacement.

EasyScan's App Store listing describes it as "The complete Stocky replacement: purchase orders, demand forecasting, stocktakes & low stock alerts," and its dead stock report is named in the listing bullets alongside ABC analysis.

The review picture is strong with one caveat. The listing header shows 5.0 from 357 reviews while the reviews page shows 337, and the star breakdown on the reviews page sums to 337, which is the internally consistent figure.

506 self-reports 8,400 active stores and 12.5 million orders fulfilled since 2019. Those are the vendor's numbers, published without third-party verification.

Key features

  • Named dead stock and ABC reports inside the inventory reporting section
  • Barcode scanning for stocktakes, picking, and receiving
  • Purchase order creation with auto-generation to min and max levels
  • Demand forecasting from per-variant sales velocity, gated to Advanced and above
  • Shopify POS, Shopify Flow, Zebra and Dymo hardware support

Pricing

Basic at $9.99 per month, Standard at $39.99, Advanced at $79.99, and Pro at $129.99, with annual billing available and a 10-day free trial. There's no free plan.

Who should choose EasyScan

  • Merchants migrating off Stocky who need scanning and purchase orders together
  • Stores running physical stocktakes with barcode hardware
  • Shopify POS retailers who want reporting and receiving in one app

Limitations

EasyScan publishes no detail on whether its dead stock report reads in units or dollars, and neither the vendor site nor the documentation resolves it. Demand forecasting sits behind the $79.99 tier, there's no free plan, and support stops at Shopify POS with no Square, Lightspeed, or Clover.

EasyScan vs Cash Margin Partners

EasyScan is the better buy for a store whose daily pain is receiving and counting, because barcode workflows are something Cash Margin Partners doesn't touch. Cash Margin Partners is the better buy when the pain is the bank balance, because the output is a dollar figure with a ranked plan attached.

5. Shopify Native Inventory Reports: Best Free First Look

Shopify includes nine native inventory reports on every plan, covering ABC product analysis, sell-through rate, and month-end inventory value, with no app installation required.

Every Shopify merchant already has a partial answer sitting in the admin. The native inventory reports include ABC product analysis, Products by sell-through rate, Products by percentage sold, Inventory remaining per product, Month-end inventory snapshot, and Month-end inventory value.

ABC product analysis grades each variant by share of revenue over 28 days, and the D grade is where non-sellers cluster. Month-end inventory value multiplies cost per item by ending quantity, which is the only native report carrying a dollar figure.

Shopify's Help Center states that analytics features are available on any subscription plan, so treat older guidance claiming ABC analysis requires Advanced as stale.

Key features

  • ABC product analysis grading variants by revenue share over 28 days
  • Products by sell-through rate and Products by percentage sold
  • Inventory remaining per product, estimating days of cover at average sales rate
  • Month-end inventory snapshot in units and Month-end inventory value in dollars
  • Included at no extra cost on Basic at $39 per month and every plan above it

Pricing

Included with every Shopify subscription. Shopify plans run $39, $105, and $399 per month billed monthly, or $29, $79, and $299 billed annually, with Plus starting at $2,300 per month.

Who should choose the native reports

  • Merchants who want a first read before installing anything
  • Stores whose catalog is small enough to eyeball a D-grade list
  • Owners validating whether a paid tool would tell them something new

Limitations

No native report identifies non-selling inventory and prices it in one view, so the dollar answer means exporting ABC product analysis and Month-end inventory value and joining them by hand. The 28-day ABC window is short for seasonal catalogs, and none of the nine reports suggests an action.

Shopify native reports vs Cash Margin Partners

Shopify's reports are free with the plan the merchant already pays for, and any owner should open them before buying anything, including ours. Cash Margin Partners exists because the join Shopify leaves to the merchant is the part that produces the number, and because a D grade tells you nothing about what to do next.

6. Data Export IO: Best for Scheduled Delivery of Whatever You Build

Data Export IO runs more than 130 prebuilt Shopify reports and schedules them to email, FTP, SFTP, Google Drive, or Google Sheets, starting at $12 per month.

Data Export IO holds a 5.0 rating from 2,009 reviews as of September 13, 2026, with the most recent review dated September 7, 2026. That's the largest review base in this entire category.

Its reporting covers both units and dollars. The features page states it reports "products sold by SKU, Units, Dollars, Inventory value, and count," which is unusually explicit.

What it doesn't have is a named dead stock report. Searching the listing, homepage, features page, FAQ, and full documentation index returns no hits for dead stock, aging, slow-moving, or obsolete.

Key features

  • Twenty-four inventory reports inside a library the homepage counts at 136
  • Scheduled delivery to email, FTP, SFTP, Google Drive, and Google Sheets, hourly through monthly
  • Exports as Sheets, Excel, CSV, JSON, TXT, or a shareable link
  • Free custom report setup included on every tier
  • Reporting in units and dollars, including inventory valuation

Pricing

$12, $25, $35, or $50 per month, priced by the merchant's Shopify plan tier rather than by usage. There's no free plan and no annual billing, only a 15-day trial.

Who should choose Data Export IO

  • Merchants who need reports landing in a shared Drive or Sheet on a schedule
  • Accountants and bookkeepers pulling store data into their own systems
  • Stores wanting breadth across sales, tax, payouts, and fulfillment in one app

Limitations

No named dead stock, aging, or slow-moving report exists, so the merchant builds the logic with filters and calculated columns. There's no forecasting of any kind, the homepage counts 136 reports while the documentation says 80 plus, and non-Plus stores sync only the last 200,000 orders.

Data Export IO vs Cash Margin Partners

Data Export IO is the better tool for a store that needs twenty reports delivered to five people every Monday morning, and no diagnostic replaces that. Cash Margin Partners answers one question instead of many, and answers it without asking the merchant to write the query.

7. Report Toaster: Best for Building an Aging Report From Scratch

Report Toaster by Cloudlab offers 130 or more prebuilt Shopify reports and calculated fields that let a merchant construct an inventory aging report, free on Basic and Grow plans with a 90-day history cap.

Report Toaster carries a 4.9 rating from 218 reviews, with the most recent review dated August 31, 2026. Its own website displays 5.0 and "200+ Reviews," which rounds up and undercounts at the same time.

On dead stock, the listing is upfront about where the work sits. A bullet instructs the merchant to "Create calculated fields to track inventory history, setup an aging report," which is a build rather than a template.

The free plan's binding constraint is history depth. Ninety days of order history is too short a window to call anything dead, which makes the free plan unusable for this particular job.

Key features

  • Calculated fields for building custom inventory history and aging views
  • 130 or more prebuilt reports across sales, orders, inventory, and customers
  • Scheduled PDF and CSV delivery by email
  • Multi-store reporting from one account
  • Integrations with Google Sheets, Metafields, Simple Bundles, and Zapiet

Pricing

Free on Basic and Grow with 90 days of history, then $18, $60, or $150 per month by Shopify plan tier. The three paid plans list identical features.

Who should choose Report Toaster

  • Merchants comfortable writing calculated fields
  • Multi-store operators reporting across shops in one place
  • Teams that want scheduled report delivery at the lowest paid entry price

Limitations

There's no prebuilt dead stock, slow-moving, or aging template, and no published statement about whether inventory reports read in units or dollars. It lists no POS integration of any kind, and its own site claims a 5.0 rating that the App Store doesn't support.

Report Toaster vs Cash Margin Partners

Report Toaster gives a technical merchant the raw material to build exactly the view they want, which is a real advantage over a fixed diagnostic. Cash Margin Partners suits the owner who would rather have the answer than the report builder.

How to Choose a Shopify Dead Stock Report

  1. Check the definition before the price. Days since last sale and days since last receipt produce different lists from the same catalog, and only one of them answers the cash question.
  2. Insist on the value column. A list of 312 stalled SKUs means nothing until it says what you paid for them.
  3. Check the history window on free plans. Report Toaster's free plan caps at 90 days, which is shorter than most definitions of dead.
  4. Decide whether you want a report or a decision. Four of the seven tools here stop at identification by design, and that's the right scope for some merchants.
  5. Match the tier to your Shopify plan. Four of these apps price by your Shopify plan level rather than by your usage, so the cost scales with a number that has nothing to do with your catalog.

Plan a 90-Day Inventory Review

This is a suggested workflow, not a promise of recovered revenue.

Week 1: review the evidence

Cash Margin Partners offers read-only Shopify, Square, and Lightspeed Retail X-Series connections where production launch status and workspace eligibility permit. Lightspeed is a capacity-managed X-Series custom application, excluding R-Series, eCom, and Restaurant. Compatible item-level uploads remain available after column review; Clover uses that export path, not a native connection.

Shopify supplies unit cost when available; Square and Lightspeed analyses add costs through CMP's prefilled template. Confirm the observation window, cost completeness, returns, and any sales outside the source before judging individual SKUs.

Weeks 2 to 4: choose actions

Review eligible SKU-level markdown and recovery recommendations, same-category bundle suggestions, margin floors, and liquidation candidates. The owner approves and executes each action through the store's existing systems. A failed markdown alone does not prove that an item should be liquidated.

Weeks 5 to 12: measure again

Refresh the source data and compare what sold, what remains, and actual net proceeds after costs.

How to Vet a Dead Stock Reporting Tool

What does the tool measure to call something dead?

Ask for the exact metric. Assisty's Aging Stock measures days since last received, Mipler measures no sales in a chosen period, and those two produce different lists from the same store.

Does the dead stock view show cost value in the same table?

Several tools report inventory value somewhere and aging somewhere else. Joining them yourself in a spreadsheet works, and it's worth knowing you'll be doing it.

How far back does the free plan see?

A 90-day history cap can't identify dead stock under most definitions. Check the history depth on any free plan before treating it as a real answer.

Does the vendor's own rating claim match the App Store?

Three of the seven tools here display a review count or rating on their own site that the App Store doesn't support. That's a small thing that tells you how carefully the rest of the copy was checked.

What is the tool's answer to "now what"?

Identification is cheap and getting cheaper. Ask whether the vendor has any position on markdown depth, bundling, or where the stock goes if it never clears.

Key insight

Six of the seven Shopify apps whose own listings use the phrase "dead stock" in the title or description launched in 2026 and carry zero or one review, verified against their App Store listing dates in September 2026. The category is new enough that review depth is a genuine differentiator.

Start Here: Four Steps This Week

  1. Open ABC product analysis in your Shopify admin and filter to D-grade variants. It's free, it's already there, and it takes minutes.
  2. Export Month-end inventory value and look up the cost value of those D-grade variants. That total is your rough trapped-cash figure.
  3. The free five-step calculator provides a directional trapped-cash estimate from questionnaire answers. A separate free workspace supports SKU-level analysis after a supported store connection or compatible item-level upload.
  4. Pick one SKU from the top of the list and decide its fate this week: mark it down, bundle it, or list it. One decision beats a perfect report.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Shopify dead stock report?

Cash Margin Partners is the best Shopify dead stock report because it separates dead stock from slow-moving inventory, prices both in forecast dollars at risk, and suggests eligible recovery actions; proposed marketplace access remains subject to production acceptance. Merchants who only want the report and nothing after it should buy Mipler's Dead Inventory report at $14.99 per month.

Does Shopify have a built-in dead stock report?

No. Shopify's native inventory reports include ABC product analysis, Products by sell-through rate, and Month-end inventory value, but no single report identifies non-selling inventory and prices it. Getting the dollar figure means exporting two reports and joining them by hand.

What happened to Stocky?

Shopify delisted Stocky on February 2, 2026 and it stopped being available after August 31, 2026, according to the Shopify Help Center. Read-only data access was retained for at least 90 days after the sunset so merchants could export, and supplier records could not be exported at all.

How is dead stock defined?

Cash Margin Partners defines dead stock as inventory with verified historical sales but no recent sales across a sufficiently observed window. Definitions vary by tool: Mipler uses no sales in a chosen period, while Assisty's Aging Stock report measures days since last received rather than days since last sale.

Is there a free Shopify dead stock report?

Cash Margin Partners is free with no credit card and no time limit. Mipler's free plan covers stores under 1,000 orders, Assisty's free plan caps sales history at six months, and Shopify's own inventory reports are included with every plan.

Which dead stock report shows dollars rather than units?

Cash Margin Partners reports forecast dollars at risk per SKU, and Mipler's Dead Inventory report shows total value of stuck inventory alongside quantity on hand. Assisty's Aging Stock report shows quantity and aged days only, with inventory value living in a separate report.

Can I build a dead stock report myself in Shopify?

Yes, with a reporting app that supports calculated fields. Report Toaster and Data Export IO both require the merchant to construct the logic, because neither ships a named dead stock template, and both are strong once the work is done.

Open the D-grade list first. Everything on this page is a way of getting a better version of that same answer.
