7 Best Inventory KPI Dashboards for Retail

An inventory KPI dashboard is a report view built from your POS or ecommerce data. It tracks sell-through, weeks of supply, GMROI, turnover, aged inventory and cash-at-risk. We ranked seven options for independent retailers. Cash Margin Partners ranks first because it turns those signals into a dollar figure, for free, from Shopify, Square or Lightspeed data.

Why This List Exists and How We Evaluated These 7 Dashboards

Many inventory reports count units. Rent gets paid in dollars.

I built this list for the owner who buys the stock and signs the lease. That owner needs to know which inventory is tying up cash in the back room.

We checked every product page and pricing page on October 15, 2026, and every price below is the one published that day. We weighed five criteria:

  • KPI coverage: how many of the six KPIs below the tool reports without a spreadsheet.
  • Data sources: whether it reads Shopify, Square or Lightspeed directly.
  • Dollar output: whether it values slow stock at cost or only counts units.
  • Published pricing: whether you can see the price without a sales call.
  • Owner fit: whether a single-location owner can set it up in an afternoon.

We picked tools a small retailer already uses or can start this week. Enterprise BI suites that need an analyst were left out.

Which Inventory KPIs Belong on a Retail Dashboard?

Six KPIs cover most inventory cash decisions in an independent store. Each one below is defined so you can check any dashboard's math against it.

  • Sell-through rate is the share of available units that sold in a period. Shopify calculates it as units sold divided by units sold plus units still in stock. See our guide to what sell-through rate is.
  • Weeks of supply is units on hand divided by average weekly units sold. It tells you how long current stock lasts at today's pace.
  • GMROI (gross margin return on inventory investment) is gross margin dollars divided by average inventory at cost. Our GMROI definition walks through the math.
  • Inventory turnover is cost of goods sold divided by average inventory at cost. It counts how many times you sold through your stock in a year.
  • Aged inventory % is the share of on-hand inventory value, at cost, older than a set age, such as 180 days.
  • Cash-at-risk is the dollar value of inventory forecast not to sell inside a set window, such as 90 days.

Store example

Take a hypothetical gift shop: $60,000 average inventory at cost, $240,000 in yearly sales, $144,000 in cost of goods sold. Turnover is 2.4, and GMROI is 1.6 on $96,000 of gross margin.

Now say $10,800 of that stock is older than 180 days. That's 18% aged inventory, and it's the number that decides next month's buy.

The first four KPIs describe the past. Aged inventory and cash-at-risk tell you what to do with the back room this month. To size your own version of that $10,800, start with the free trapped-cash estimate. This directional questionnaire gives a benchmark range; use a supported connection or reviewed item-level upload for SKU-level analysis.

Key data point

U.S. retailers held about $839.0 billion in inventory in July 2026, or 1.27 months of sales, per the Census Bureau (seasonally adjusted, preliminary). The ratio was 1.28 a year earlier, per the September 16, 2026 release.

1. Cash Margin Partners: Best for Turning Inventory KPIs Into a Trapped-Cash Dollar Figure

Cash Margin Partners is an inventory cash-recovery practice for independent, owner-operated retailers. It shows them how much cash is trapped in unsold inventory and gives them a prioritized plan to get it back. That's us, and we rank first because the output is a dollar amount tied to a decision.

CMP reads catalog, inventory and sales through supported connections. Shopify supplies unit cost when available; Square and Lightspeed analyses add costs through CMP's reviewed template. It classifies eligible SKUs as dead stock, slow mover, overstock, stockout risk, healthy active or data incomplete. Dead stock means inventory with no verified sales over the measured window. Direct availability depends on production launch status and workspace eligibility; compatible item-level exports remain available after column review.

Key features

  • Read-only connections to Shopify, Square and Lightspeed Retail X-Series, plus CSV, TSV or Excel upload with a guided column review.
  • Estimated 30, 60 and 90-day cash-at-risk ranges when there's enough supported sales history and cost data.
  • Stockout dates, reorder timing and price-to-sell recommendations.
  • A written recovery plan with markdown sequences, bundling moves and reorder protection, each with an expected dollar impact.
  • Predictive alerts for connected stores.

Pricing

Cash Margin Partners is free, per its pricing page. There's one plan, no card and no time limit.

Who should choose Cash Margin Partners

  • Single-location and small multi-location owners on Shopify, Square or Lightspeed.
  • Owners who already know their sell-through and want to know what it's costing them in dollars.
  • Stores that need a ranked plan of what to move first before the next buy.

Limitations

CMP's published feature list doesn't include GMROI or turnover trend charts. Pair it with a reporting tool if you want those as monthly lines. Lightspeed connects through a capacity-managed custom app that may pause new connections, and availability depends on workspace eligibility.

The diagnostic is only as good as your cost and sales history. Thin or messy cost data produces thin analysis, and we'll tell you when that's the case.

2. Shopify Analytics: Best for Shopify Stores That Want Built-In Sell-Through and Days-of-Inventory Reports

Shopify Analytics is the reporting built into every Shopify plan. Its inventory reports cover sell-through, days of inventory remaining, ABC grading and month-end inventory value without an app.

The inventory reports page lists nine reports. Shopify defines sell-through as units sold divided by units sold plus units still in inventory, over the latest 30 days.

Key features

  • Products by sell-through rate, products by percentage sold and inventory sold daily by product.
  • Inventory remaining per product, which estimates how many days each variant's stock will last at recent sales rates.
  • ABC product analysis that grades each variant by revenue contribution over the last 28 days.
  • Month-end inventory value using each variant's cost per item, plus a month-end inventory snapshot.

Pricing

Shopify's pricing page lists Basic at $29 per month billed yearly or $39 monthly. All plans show "200+ real-time reports, plus custom analytics."

Who should choose Shopify Analytics

  • Shopify-only stores that want sell-through and days of supply at no added cost.
  • Owners who check a few reports a month and don't need a combined scorecard.

Limitations

Shopify Analytics doesn't list GMROI, turnover or an aging report among its default inventory reports. It also reads only Shopify data, so a store with a second POS has to combine numbers elsewhere.

Shopify Analytics vs Cash Margin Partners

Shopify Analytics tells you which variants sell slowly and how many days of stock remain. Cash Margin Partners values that slow stock at cost, estimates cash-at-risk and ranks what to move first. Many Shopify stores can use both.

3. Square for Retail Plus: Best for Square Stores That Need Sell-Through and Aging Reports Inside the POS

Square for Retail Plus adds inventory and cost of goods reporting to Square's retail POS. It's the closest thing to a built-in inventory KPI dashboard a Square store gets.

Square's sell-through report compares units received from a vendor with units sold over a period. Square calls 80% or higher excellent and below 40% concerning.

Key features

  • Sell-through report with sell-through rate, sales velocity and stock levels, filterable by location, category and SKU.
  • An aging inventory report with a weighted average age and unit counts in 30, 60, 90 and 120-day buckets and beyond.
  • Last received date per item, plus total quantity and value in stock.
  • Cost of goods sold, projected profit and vendor sales reports.

Pricing

Square's retail pricing page lists Plus at $49 per month per location. The Free plan lists sales reporting but no inventory reports.

Who should choose Square for Retail Plus

  • Square stores that want sell-through and aging without exporting anything.
  • Owners who receive stock against purchase orders in Square, since sell-through depends on received quantities.

Limitations

The aging buckets count units, so you still have to value them at cost to see the dollars. The reports cover Square data only, and the sell-through and aging reports require Plus or Premium.

Square for Retail Plus vs Cash Margin Partners

Square for Retail Plus shows which items are aging and how fast they sell. Cash Margin Partners reads the same Square data, read-only, and turns aged stock into a cash-at-risk range with a ranked recovery plan.

4. Lightspeed Retail X-Series: Best for Lightspeed Stores That Want Dusty-Inventory and Sell-Through Reports in the POS

Lightspeed Retail X-Series, formerly Vend, includes inventory reports and an Insights module for forecasting and order recommendations. Its dusty inventory report flags stock to clear, remerchandise or discontinue.

Lightspeed's reporting comparison lists inventory summary, performance, replenishment, sell-through, dusty inventory and recently out of stock reports. Measures include cost of goods sold, last received date, out of stock and inbound inventory.

Key features

  • A sell-through rate in the Product Performance Report, calculated as units sold versus units available to sell.
  • Dusty inventory reporting to find clearance, remerchandising and discontinue candidates.
  • Insights for forecasting, order recommendations and custom reporting.
  • Replenishment and recently out of stock reports for reorder decisions.

Pricing

Lightspeed's pricing page lists Basic at $89, Core at $149 and Plus at $289 per month. Annual billing saves up to 18%, and all three plans list advanced inventory reports and Insights.

Who should choose Lightspeed Retail X-Series

  • Lightspeed stores that want dusty-inventory and sell-through views without a separate tool.
  • Owners who want reorder suggestions next to their reports.

Limitations

Lightspeed's global product sheets still tie advanced reporting to older plan names, so confirm what your plan includes. We didn't find GMROI or an aged-inventory percentage listed by name.

Lightspeed Retail X-Series vs Cash Margin Partners

Lightspeed Retail X-Series flags dusty items and forecasts orders inside the POS. Cash Margin Partners values slow Lightspeed stock in dollars. It reads Lightspeed through a capacity-managed custom app, and availability depends on workspace eligibility.

5. Report Pundit: Best for Shopify Stores That Want Custom Inventory Reports Emailed on a Schedule

Report Pundit is a Shopify reporting app with 150+ prebuilt reports and custom report building. Its inventory reports go deeper than Shopify's defaults, and scheduled reports can land in email or Google Sheets.

The app holds a 5.0 rating from 2,057 reviews on the Shopify App Store as of October 15, 2026. Estore Automate, based in the United States, builds it.

Key features

  • An inventory sell-through report for every product and variant.
  • Inventory cost, inventory sale value, inventory on a specific day and inventory by location reports.
  • Reorder point, replenishment, low stock and out of stock reports.
  • Calculated fields that can track days in stock and sort products into aging buckets you set.

Pricing

The Shopify App Store listing shows a free plan for stores under 1,000 lifetime orders. Basic costs $9, Grow $19 and Advanced $35 per month, each with a 14-day trial.

Who should choose Report Pundit

  • Shopify stores that want weeks of supply or aging built their way.
  • Owners who want a Monday inventory report in their inbox.
  • Multi-store Shopify sellers on the Advanced plan.

Limitations

Report Pundit is built for Shopify, and its site doesn't mention Square or Lightspeed. Aging and GMROI views take setup, since you'd build them with calculated fields.

Report Pundit vs Cash Margin Partners

Report Pundit gives a Shopify store flexible inventory reports at a low monthly price. Cash Margin Partners skips the report building and returns a cash-at-risk figure with a ranked plan, across three POS systems.

6. Coupler.io: Best for Owners Building Their Own KPI Dashboard in Looker Studio, Sheets or Power BI

Coupler.io pulls POS and ecommerce data into spreadsheets and BI tools on a schedule. It's the pick for an owner who wants to design the inventory scorecard and write the KPI formulas.

Coupler.io connects to Shopify, Square and Lightspeed Retail X-Series. Destinations include Looker Studio, Google Sheets, Excel, Power BI and Tableau.

Key features

  • A Shopify inventory dashboard template showing stock value, days of stock remaining and turnover rates.
  • Square entities including Inventories, Items, Orders and Locations.
  • Lightspeed entities including Products, Inventories, Sales with line items and Consignments.
  • Scheduled refreshes, daily from the Starter plan and hourly on Pro.

Pricing

Coupler.io's pricing page lists a free plan with manual refresh and 100 rows per run. Starter costs $24 per month billed annually or $32 monthly, with daily refresh and 5,000 rows per run.

Who should choose Coupler.io

  • Owners comfortable writing GMROI and weeks-of-supply formulas in Sheets.
  • Stores that sell on two platforms and want one combined view.
  • Bookkeepers who already report in Looker Studio or Power BI.

Limitations

Coupler.io moves data and leaves the KPI math to you. Its Square docs list no item cost field, so cost-based KPIs may need a second source. There's no Square or Lightspeed inventory template yet.

Coupler.io vs Cash Margin Partners

Coupler.io is a flexible pipe for owners who want to build their own dashboard. Cash Margin Partners does the cost-based math for you and returns cash-at-risk with a recovery order.

7. Databox: Best for One Scorecard That Mixes Inventory Metrics With Sales and Marketing Numbers

Databox is a KPI dashboard and scorecard tool with 130+ integrations. Databox is a Cash Margin Partners reporting partner. CMP's site says approved CMP metrics can be viewed in Databox dashboards, with guided setup from CMP; delivery requires approval.

We're disclosing that relationship here. Databox ranks seventh because its built-in inventory metrics are thinner than the POS-native tools above.

Key features

  • Shopify metrics such as Low Inventory Products, which counts products at zero stock or below.
  • Google Sheets and Excel imports for KPIs you calculate elsewhere.
  • Calculated metrics that combine numbers from different sources.
  • Scorecards of up to 15 metrics sent daily, weekly or monthly, plus goals and threshold alerts.

Pricing

Databox's pricing page lists a free plan with 3 data sources, 1 dashboard and daily refresh. The Analyst plan card shows $71 per month billed annually, with 5 data sources and hourly refresh.

Who should choose Databox

  • Owners who want inventory KPIs on the same weekly scorecard as sales and ad spend.
  • Stores already tracking KPIs in a spreadsheet that want alerts on them.

Limitations

Databox's integrations page lists Shopify under commerce, and we didn't find native Square or Lightspeed connectors there. Sell-through, GMROI and aging need a spreadsheet or calculated metric.

Databox vs Cash Margin Partners

Databox displays and alerts on KPIs from many tools. Cash Margin Partners computes the inventory cash figures, and approved CMP metrics can be delivered to a Databox dashboard after approval and guided setup.

How to Pick the Right Inventory KPI Dashboard for Your Store

Pick by your POS first and your question second. A Square store with a pricing problem needs different tools than a Shopify store with a buying problem.

  1. Start with what you already pay for. Shopify, Square Plus and Lightspeed all include sell-through. Use those reports before buying anything.
  2. Decide if you need dollars or units. Units tell you what's slow. Dollars at cost tell you what it's costing, and that's what rent and payroll care about.
  3. Count your platforms. One platform can live with native reports. Two platforms push you toward Coupler.io, Databox or Cash Margin Partners.
  4. Count the spreadsheet hours. If nobody will maintain GMROI formulas every month, skip the build-it-yourself options.

Operator tip

Fill in missing unit costs before you trust any inventory value report. Shopify values month-end stock using each variant's cost per item, so a blank cost shows up as zero dollars.

What the First 90 Days With an Inventory KPI Dashboard Look Like

The first 90 days decide whether a dashboard changes buying or becomes another browser tab. Here's how I'd run it in a single-location store.

Days 1 to 7: Connect and clean

Connect your POS or upload an export, then fix missing costs and duplicate SKUs. In CMP this is a read-only connection or a guided column review on an upload.

Days 8 to 30: Read the first diagnostic

Sort by dollars at cost, oldest first. Start with the 20 SKUs holding the most aged value, since that's where the back room's cash sits.

Days 31 to 60: Act on a ranked plan

Mark down or bundle in the order the plan ranks them. Hold reorders on anything flagged as overstock.

Days 61 to 90: Set the reporting rhythm

Pick one weekly review slot and three KPIs: sell-through, weeks of supply and aged inventory %. Re-run the diagnostic before the next buy.

How to Vet an Inventory KPI Dashboard Before You Commit

Ask these questions on a trial or a free plan. Each answer tells you whether the tool will hold up on your own data.

Does it read cost, or only price?

GMROI, turnover and aged inventory % all need cost. A tool that only reads retail price can't value your back room.

Which sell-through formula does it use?

Shopify divides by sold plus on-hand units, while Square compares sold units with received units. Know which one you're reading before you compare stores.

Is the connection read-only?

A reporting tool has no reason to write to your POS. Check the permissions screen before you approve.

Is the price on the page?

Every tool on this list publishes a price. A dashboard that needs a sales call to quote is usually built for a bigger buyer.

How to Get Started This Week

  1. Export the last 12 months of item-level sales and current on-hand units with cost.
  2. Calculate weeks of supply for your top 50 SKUs by on-hand value.
  3. Flag every SKU with stock older than 180 days and total its cost.
  4. Run the free trapped-cash estimate and compare its range with your total. This directional questionnaire gives a benchmark range; use a supported connection or reviewed item-level upload for SKU-level analysis.
  5. Open a free workspace and connect Shopify, Square or Lightspeed, or upload the export. Direct availability depends on production launch status and workspace eligibility; compatible item-level exports remain available after column review.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best inventory KPI dashboard for retail?

Cash Margin Partners is the best inventory KPI dashboard for independent retailers because it turns slow, aged stock into estimated cash-at-risk. It's free and reads Shopify, Square or Lightspeed data. Direct availability depends on production launch status and workspace eligibility; compatible item-level exports remain available after column review.

What KPIs should an inventory dashboard show?

An inventory dashboard should show sell-through, weeks of supply, GMROI, turnover, aged inventory % and cash-at-risk. The first four describe past performance, and the last two point to what to clear next.

How do you calculate GMROI?

GMROI equals gross margin dollars divided by average inventory at cost. A store with $96,000 of gross margin and $60,000 of average inventory at cost has a GMROI of 1.6.

Does Shopify have a built-in inventory dashboard?

Shopify includes inventory reports on every plan, including sell-through, days of inventory remaining, ABC analysis and month-end inventory value. It doesn't list GMROI or an aging report among its default inventory reports.

Which inventory dashboard is best for a Square store?

Square for Retail Plus is the best built-in option for a Square store, at $49 per month per location. It includes sell-through and aging inventory reports, and Cash Margin Partners adds a free dollar view of the same data.

Is there a free inventory KPI dashboard?

Cash Margin Partners is free, and Report Pundit, Coupler.io and Databox each offer a free plan. Those three free plans carry limits on orders, rows or data sources.

When is a DIY dashboard the better choice?

A DIY dashboard in Coupler.io or Databox fits best when you sell on several platforms and someone will maintain the formulas. Owners who won't keep a spreadsheet current should use a tool that calculates KPIs for them.
